I was the Latin Band/Leader "ARVITO & his Latin Rhythms" jn 1956. The Ned Harvey Orch. was the American/ShowBand & Mike Gold Had the Jazz Group in the Lounge that year. I was 19 & it was My 1st big Hotel Gig. Actually I had been working for years in NYC & the Catskills under the name of "HARVITO" (translation little Harvey). When I was advertised in the NY Post Resort Section for Memorial Day Weekend I was listed as ARVITO in the Brickman's Ad. When I brought the mistake to Murray Posner's (the Owner's) attention He said it was no mistake. He simply thought that HARVITO didn't sound Latin enough & ARVITO did so He took it upon Himself to change My professional name. He liked My Band & gave Me a choice, Either I could lose the (H) & play Brickman's for the summer or keep the (H) & look for another job. Needless to say I became ARVITO from that day on (BTW MR.Posner was correct) thru 1966 when I started recording under My legal name Harvey Averne & the rest as they say is History. I am sure Mr. Posner would definitely not approve of this & never knew the impact He had on a 19 year old Jewish Kid from East New York Bklyn. Mucho Thanx Murray Posner, where ever You are.
