My sixteen year old son and I would like to build a kick wheel. I have found many references but only one actual drawing/plan by Jolyon Hofsted. Does anyone have a good design/drawing to share? Any such drawing or designs would be greatly appreciated. thompson3682@msn.com

For a very good kickwheel design with a 'treadle' go to www.youtube.com and search for Simon Leach. He has over 100 videos on there and they are very informative. If you email him, he will also send you at no charge drawings of his 'Leach wheel' that his grandfather designed. He still uses it and has some videos of how it works.

Hi Jeff and son,Try your local library for Readers Digests Crafts and Hobbies,A step by step guide to creative skills.I'm not sure if the newer versions have a pottery section, I'm pretty sure they do. My 1979 edition does, in fact, I use it every day in my studio as a teaching aid, Randi Feldman is the featured artist, potter. My Dad, brother and I built this one thirty odd yrs ago and it worked great, of course my dad and friends had to be very creative because we cld not aford wheel head kit. We scrounged every bit of the materials It might have cost $25. bucks! I currently havea partial one out back of my house, not sure if I'll sell this one yet, but have a used school kick/eletric combo in my kiln room for sale, real cheap, needs work, if we were closer I might be able to help. Might be able to email a pic not sure.Good luck!DebraRay ThompsonColorado, Potter/Instructor
