I would like to make comment on the “desalination plant disaster”. Aside from being a big waste of money for the returns expected we at Kurnell are still coping it. I am quite sure most people do not comprehend how much money 2 BILLION dollars really is. I would like to see some comparisons broadcast of what else that amount of money can buy or has been bought, i.e. Sydney harbor bridge, that compare value for money, I can do this if you feel this could help our cause. There has to be some compensation for all the crap dumped on such a beautiful piece of land, it seems to me that the saying “crap attracts crap” is pertinent to our suburb, it’s easier to dump rubbish on top of other peoples rubbish than to throw litter onto someone’s manicured lawn. Because we have an oil refinery, sewage, tips, carbon black it won’t be a problem throwing a noisy polluting power guzzling desalination plant in amongst it. The oil refinery was here when I moved here 8yrs ago, that’s ok but it’s getting busier & smellier every year, it wastes mega liters every year that can be recycled. On the trip into Kurnell traveling along the single lane road that has been allocated to cope with traffic 40 years ago we have to deal with the stench bellowing from the sewerage treatment plant, gaze across to the right to see the emerging pile of garbage that used to be beautiful sand hills that nearly everyone from Sydney has spent time in at one time or another, we see empty blocks of land that won’t sell due to increasing traffic & the uncertainty of “what next” for Kurnell attitude. I am the vice president of the recently formed Kurnell Motor Cycle Club, formed for the purpose to gain some land for the young kids of this area to enjoy the sport dirt bike riding, we have over 100 members with nowhere to ride within 1 ½ hrs drive. Build some constructive projects to educate & entertain the kids in Kurnell, they are our future not another big piece of crap.
