Faculty Opening MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Worcester, Massachusetts, USA Position: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track opening in Managerial Accounting. The position will commence on or about August 15, 2007. Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Accounting. ABD’s who are assured of completion by August 1, 2007, may be considered. The teaching area will be Managerial Accounting. While we are open on the accounting research interests of the candidate, we are most interested in candidates who can tie their research to technology-based organizations in some way. Related business and teaching experience is preferred, as is successful evidence of scholarship. Our Expectations: Untenured faculty members teach a total of three courses and advise student projects during the academic year (tenured faculty members teach four). Most likely, the faculty member will teach one undergraduate section of Managerial Accounting and one integrated graduate course in Business Analysis for Technological Managers, and one other course, or a combined total of approximately 126 classroom contact hours for the academic year. Research, especially that leading to publication in high quality refereed journals, is expected and supported. Cross-functional research is encouraged and we have seen research collaborations between our faculty members in accounting, information systems, operations management, and finance. The Department: Accounting at WPI is part of the Department of Management, our equivalent of the traditional business school. It is a small but growing department that is building a strong national reputation in technology-related business disciplines and fields. We offer four undergraduate majors, four master’s degrees, and cover all the functional areas of business, plus Industrial Engineering, however, we do not offer a major or degree in Accounting. The Department offers faculty members an innovative and collegial educational environment, outstanding students, outstanding support for research and teaching, and a competitive salary. The University: WPI is a selective private university with an innovative curriculum centered on engineering, science, technology, and management. Ranked 55th by US News & World Report among national comprehensive universities, WPI enrolls 2800 undergraduates and 1100 graduate students and enjoys close working relationships with many corporations, due in part to its project-enriched curriculum that engages students and faculty in real-world problem solving, often at corporate or international sites. Location: Worcester, the second largest city in Massachusetts, is approximately one hour from Boston and its many cultural amenities, as well as the seashore, and is only 30 minutes from alpine skiing. A significant attraction is the large number of technology companies and colleges and universities (13) in the immediate area, which is ideal for dual career families. For Consideration: Interested parties should submit a letter of application and current C.V., and make arrangements for us to receive three letters of reference. Other supporting materials, such as teaching evaluations and published articles, are welcomed and will be helpful to the committee. Send all materials to: ACC Search, Department of Management, WPI, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01609-2280 (e-mail: macb@wpi.edu). Application screening will commence during the summer and will continue until the position is filled. At AAA: Applications will be screened and a few applicants will be invited to interview with us at the AAA meeting. The number of interview time slots is limited, however, and we will not be able to accommodate all applicants. http://www.mgt.wpi.edu Department of Management Website |
