I am interested in applying to a Doctoral program in Finance a few years from now. In the meantime I will earn a Master's degree in Economics. I was told that Econometrics is an important course to take prior to entering a Finance program, but what other courses should I consider? Also, with the Master's degree in Economics increase my chances of being admitted to and completing a doctoral program in Finance? My B.S.B.A. was in Finance.

Several factors influence your chances of getting into a PhD program, one of which is your educational background. An economics background is a plus in that many finance theories are based upon economic theories. You will use econometric techiques in your research so any econometric courses you are able to take will also be helpful.
