Greetings, I am interested in getting my Ph.D in Finance. I have a 630 GMAT score and a B.S in Accounting (3.23 GPA). I will be getting a masters this year and plan on starting a Ph.D Program in the fall of 2007. I need some guidance in regards to any additional things that I can do in order to enhance my chances of getting into a program. |

I entered my PhD program with a GMAT score lower than yours, but a score over 700 will get you into most schools. Other things you could do include visiting the schools that interest you to talk to faculty members so that they can see what they would be getting in you and you can get a better feel for the environment. If that is too cost prohibitive, emails and telephone calls may work also. If your rusty on the quantitative side, a refresher course might be worth considering as well. Be sure that you let your future advisor(s) know what steps you are taking to prepare yourself. It sends the signal that you are serious about the process. Good luck! |

Victor, Have you been to a PhD Project Conference? If not, I would highly recommend that you submit an application to be considered for an invitation to attend. The next conference is scheduled for November 15-17, 2006, in Chicago, IL. It is a great networking opportunity for individuals thinking about doctoral studies. Recently, I have considered pursuing a PhD in Finance. To date, I am conducting research about the program to increase my chances of finishing. Unfortunately, I do not have any one to discuss issues related to testing, preparations, and required undergraduate classes. If possible, can you direct me to someone who can recommend specific classes, books, or activities that will help prepare me for a PhD program and meet the eligibility requirements for the PhD Project. Thank you |
