In your professional opinion, what would be the strengths and weaknesses of completing a PhD Program online?

This depends on your living situation. If you aren't in a place to be a poor doctoral student then going to school online might be an option. However online degrees will not get you a research position nor will it likely result in a teaching position. But if you want to delve deeply into a subject and have a burning question then it might not be horrid. I would be wary about how much money you would be paying to learn stuff you could learn on your own. An MBA would serve you better in the business world unless you wanted to start your own consulting firm then the doctorate could be beneficial. Good luck.

As a current faculty member, I would advise that if your goal is to become a faculty member, do not pursue an online program. An online degree will qualify you at some institutions to be an adjunct faculty member, teaching a class here and there, but that is it. I have sat on recruiting committees at 2 AACSB-accredited institutions and I can assure you, these applicants are not considered to fulfill the minimum qualifications, which is a degree from an AACSB program. Now a few small institutions that are not AACSB-accredited and do not plan on pursing the accreditation may consider these degrees, but there is no guarantee.
