Greetings from Toronto, Canada.
The idea of the PhD Project is great! I could only wish there were anything like that in Canada (I am not aware of anything like that here).
I am a Hispanic who just finished an MBA with a specialization in Leadership and I am considering doing a PhD. The MBA left me with more questions than answers about a lifestyle in academia, teaching, and continuing to expand the field of Leadership. Here are a few questions if anyone can answer them:
1. I completed my MBA at Royal Roads University, which specializes in professional and executive programs. Part of the program is done on site and the rest is done distance on the internet. Will traditional universities decline my PhD application because I do not come froma traditional MBA? My undergrad is from York University. My GPA in my MBA is 3.63/4.00
2. Is there a book or publication that you would recommend me I read in terms of becoming a PhD student? The info in the PhD Project web site has been great but I would like to find more, and with Canadian content if possible.
Muchas Gracias. Any responses would be appreciatted.
Ramiro

Ramiro,
Glad to hear you are considering a PhD. Certainly Canadian schools also have PhD programs. I only know of one direct. It focuses on International Business (http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/). It is widely considered among the top 5 programs of its kind in the world (the program is managed by Dr. Paul Beamish). I'm sure that you'll find similar program in Toronto and Montreal. I do not think your distance MBA would be a hinderance, but check with each school for their requirements. I am not aware of any "book" per se, but there is a humorous site you might find, if nothing else, entertaining. Check out http://www.phdcomics.com/. Feel free to contact me directly at beto@beto.cc or to post other inquiries here.

There are a couple of non-traditional PhD programs that you may want to consider. I only say non-traditional because they offer the courses via non-traditional schedules but are offered by traditional universities. Click on the following links to get some more information:
Program 1:

Program 2:

I am considering a doctorate focusing on diversity management. I have my MSW with a concentration on group and organizational dynamics, additionally my company transforms organizations by empowering people of diverse backgrounds. I live in Florida. I'm curious about Phd programs that would enable me to focus on diversity management and organziational development.
I've written books however I feel that I can make a bigger impact by aligning myself within an academic evironment serving corporate america and the military.
Thoughts, ideas, and or comments appreciated.

The schools that Darrell has suggested are not AACSB accredited (this is the agency that accredits schools of business). This may not be of concern for some people. But if you want to work at the academic level in a school of busines, this might pose a problem.
