Come on, you've still got a 35mm projector, right? This year alone, the Bill Cosford Cinema has shown all of the following on 35mm:An American Werewolf in LondonThe Big ClockChinatownGood MorningHollywood ShuffleIkiruLate SpringMalcolm XMildred PierceNational Lampoon's Animal HouseNotoriousPitfallSansho the BailiffThrone of BloodUgetsuWoman in the DunesPBIFF has shown The Black Stallion on 35mm. Miami Film Festival screened brand new 35mm prints of Once Upon a Time in the West and Leave Her to Heaven, in addition to some George Kuchar shorts on 16mm.Sunrise Cinemas is hosting the U/A 90th Anniversary Fest at the Las Olas 15 (every other local venue, I'm told refused this engagement), which includes new prints of the following:Annie HallThe ApartmentDr. NoThe Good, the Bad, and the UglyThe Great EscapeThe Magnificent SevenThe Manchurian CandidateMidnight CowboyRaging BullRockySome Like it HotWest Side StoryWould it be out of the question for Cinema Paradiso to do stuff like this, say, once a year? Once every two years? The Cosford Cinema has unfortunately partnered with the insidious Emerging Pictures as well, but at least they're maintaining a balance of digital and 35mm. Can't CP do the same and show a print once in a while? Come on. Don't you have some kind of relationship with Castle Hill, which enabled you to show 10 films from their catalogue, back in 2002, which did not include a single Cassavetes title, but included the insipid, barely released Gene (Odd Couple) Saks romantic comedy A Fine Romance, and Nicolas Roeg's worst movie, Two Deaths? And why must mediocrities of FLIFFmas past like Three Men and a Leg and Left Luggage be repeatedly belched up like they're perineal favorites or something? Jeez.
