the vast Pine Barrens, strecthing through most of lower Burlington County and onto Ocean County NJ. It was orginally a good place to flee the tories. The wharton tract occupies the greter part of the pinelnds. An old map of 1889 shows names of many towns in the pine barrens which today are practically impossible to locate. Amoung those are Herman City, Quaker Bridge, Washington, crowleytown or Crowleyville, Speedwell, Jones Mills, Freindship Bogs, Bulltown, Calico, Duke's Bridge, Eagle, Lebanon, Delletts, Pestletown, Hedger House, Bulters Place, Mary Anne furnace, Howardville, Munton Field, Mount Misery, Ong's Hat, Boar stag, ceder grove, Lower Mill and Harrisville.
