I would like some ideas regarding the best approach to take for back to school lessons in the computer lab for an elementary school. Should I begin with computer/internet basics, even though this has been taught each year or should I begin with an About Me activity that incorportates teaching of these basics during the lesson and throughout the year? It would really help to receive some ideas regarding where to begin. Thanks in advance.

Dana, this is my 5th year in computer lab and I think the students absorb more when they are involved in a meaningful activity so I think the All About Me activity is better. I do a different activity with each grade level. Usually with K its just parts of the computer and some mouse control. First will usually use KidPix to draw a picture and type a sentence. Second might use Kidspiration to do a web about themselves or maybe use the digital camera to take pictures of one another and paste the picture into a template titled "all About Me", etc. on up through 5th
