Dear delegates, as Argentinean citizens this makes us part of this planet. This planet has got many, many concerns one of which we think could be resolved by the MUN if all other countries lend it the hand, hence support. Did you know that 400,000 square miles of Arctic sea ice has melted in the last thirty years (roughly the size of Texas), threatening polar bear habitats and increasing ocean levels, which further accelerate global warming worldwide? Well, the "Spirit of Nairobi" is the answer! Our resolution is about the need to expand the Spirit of Nairobi. The Spirit of Nairobi is an initiative decided in the United Nations framework convention on climate change (UNCCC) to help developing countries - especially in Africa -participate in the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism. The Clean Development Mechanism permits industrialized countries, which have emission targets under the Kyoto Protocol, to invest in sustainable development projects in developing countries that reduce greenhouse gas emission, and thereby generate tradable emission credits. The Spirit of Nairobi won't just help our plant by reducing global warming; it would as well help Africa financially. If you think your resolution is of similar concern, e-mail Siddiqa ( siddiqa.lawati@gmail.com) or Khadija (khadija.riyadh@gmail.com) to discuss merging/co-sponsoring.
