I am wondering if it is a Acadian universial that a grandparent always tell the grandchildren that the other grandparent's grandmother was an Indian Princess?I have heard the same story in Louisiana, Clare NS & someone origionally from Quebec told me the same story. |

Maybe some of them are true, some acadians did marry with native americans, when they first arrived in Acadie. http://www.geocities.com/ize_o_blue/index.html searching for acadian roots |

No stories about Indian Princesses. I wasn't supposed to learn that White was LeBlanc either. However, I did receive Indian dolls from my Nana. |

As far as I can tell, Native Americans new nothing of such titles. I believe this came about in the movies, theatrical productions and Wild West Shows. AS for Great Grand Mom and/or Dad was an Indian, I think we all have heard that one from newbies (including myself!) and are usually never proven. |

I can truthfully tell you that my grandmother 5 generations back was a metis (half French and half Micmac Indian. Many of the men married into the tribe in the late 1600"s http://members.tripod.com/norma_doucette/norma1index-2.html Doucette, Amirault, Arsenault & Pellerin plus Histories after the Deportation |

My grandmother taught my mother that every little girl should have a 'colored' doll. I believe this was done to teach brotherly love and oppose racism. So I had a little black babydoll, similar to what another lady said here. |

I have also been told by various family members that my great grandmother, Madeline Arsenault Leblanc was Indian or her mother was. My grandmother told me that her grandmother was very devoted to St. Anne (Mic Maq's patron saint), her mother Madeline was a midwife and took care of sick people, would rock babies to sleep doing an Indian chant (which my grandmother always did and then that's what I did with my children and grandchildren)...so, I am looking at these as possible clues and also a picture of my grandmother's brother seems that he definitely looks like an Indian..How do I verify this??? |
