I have "Our Norwegian Ancestors" by Anna Hong Rutt. I am close to getting the Kolstad chapter in PAF format. I plan on posting it on WorldConnect. I am also joining this group. I am on the line of Kolstad's that came from Valdres and settled on a farm near Kenyon, Goodhue County, Minnesota.

Michael, my family also originates from Valdres. Kolstad, Liekren and Myren were the farms. My gg Grandfather, Tosten Torgrimson and family emigrated in October 1880, landing in Quebec. The Torgrimson changed to Liekren, then Thompson.

My grandfather was Anders Tostenson Kolstad born 1831. He married Marit Andersdtr Christenson Hovi on April 10, 1855. They came to America April 17, 1864, first to Dane Co., Wisconsin. I am interested in finding the exact location of where they lived in Valdres. They changed their last name to Thompson when they came to America.

Roberta, I have read the background again and it appears this is the same person. I have was at the Kolstad farm last fall, October 2006. It is located about 2 miles north/northeast of Fagernes. The other connecting farms are Melby, Myren, Liekren, Let me I am not sure how we are related but it must have some type of connection. My Great Grandfather's brother, Knut Kolstad immigrated to Sturgeon Bay, WI in 1882. My great grandfather, Tosten Torgrimson Kolstad Liekren immigrated to the US, Minnesota in October 1880. Any info you can share is appreciated.Sid Thompson, Minnetonka, MN

I have "Our Norwegian Ancestors" by Anna Hong Rutt and converted chapter 13 Kolstad into PAF format. It is freeware by www.familysearch.org I can export it to GED format. I also updated it. It has the descendants of Ingeborg Lyseng[1829-1886] and Anders Kolstad[1827-1899]. Anders was born on the Kolstad farm in Heyerdahl, East Slidre, Norway. They bought a farm near Kenyon, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Some corrections for that book. Page 150 "John Benson" should be "John Benbow". Page 152 Lorraine Kolstad and Donald Moline had a son Roger. Page 153 Helmer Merquam should be Berquam. Send me an email with kolstad in the subject line. I can email it out in GED or PAF format. I am interested in a photo of the Kolstad farm.
